Learn to communicate with your baby before they can speak using simple
signs. Baby signing classes teach parents a variety of different signs to
use with their hearing babies, generally from the age of 6 months.

Through the use of these simple signs, each one expressing a key word,
babies are enabled to communicate back with their parent/carer. Babies are
initially taught signs for key words like food, milk, more, finished, hot,
cold, pain/hurt, mummy, daddy, please and thank you. As the courses progress
different signs are introduced such as animals and activities.

Classes are fun and encourage the babies’ interest through singing and the
use of percussion instruments as well as the use of pictures and props to
illustrate signs. Some classes also put signs to nursery rhymes to help
reinforce the signs and make nursery rhymes even more fun!

As well as the huge benefit of encouraging your baby to communicate before
they can speak, speech and language experts have also found that signing can
be beneficial for encouraging speech development. Babies may also experience
less frustration as they can communicate what they want and need.
